Clinical evaluation of Roxithromycin in respiratory tract infections

Abstract
|
|
|
Roxithromycin is a new semisynthetic macrolide antibiotic which has a broad antibacterial activity against Gram positive and Gram negative organisms.
Clinical usefulness of Roxithromycin was studied in 32 cases of various respiratory tract infections.
The drug was administered orally in a daily dose of 300 mg.
.-In vitro sensitivity test was performed in 32 strains of bacteria which was separated from various infections...
1) Roxithromycin was clinically effective in 26cases of all patients treated except 2 unevaluable patients with efficacy rate of 86.7%.
2) Of the total 32 strains of bacteria examined, 25 strains were rated as sensitive to Roxithromycin ith
sensitivity rate of 78.1%.
3) Any significant hematologic, hepatic and renal toxicity was not noted except mild nausea (1 case) and
mild transient elevation of serum alkaline phosphatase (i case).
